Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Okinawa has announced that the company will launch a completely made in India electric motorcycle. The electric motorcycle, to be called Oki100, will be completely made in India, apart from the battery cells, and will be launched in the third quarter of the current financial year. So, apart from the battery cells, all other components of the upcoming Oki100 electric motorcycle will be manufactured in India. The Oki100 is expected to be launched towards the end of 2020.
New Delhi: The electric two-wheeler manufacturer Okinawa will launch its first electric motorcycle Oki100 in the third quarter of the financial year 2021-21, the company said in a release.
The EV maker claimed that except for the battery cells, all the components of the upcoming Oki100 motorcycle will be manufactured in India.
As per the release, Oki100 will clock a top speed of 100 km per hour and have a lithium-ion battery base. The bike’s prototype was first unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018.
Commenting on the development, Jeetender Sharma- MD, Okinawa said, “Currently, Okinawa offers maximum localization of electric vehicles, which is 88 percent. With our upcoming electric bike, we are taking the localization level up to 100 percent. All the components of the electric motorcycle will be manufactured and sourced from local suppliers. We expect this to boost local suppliers’ domain and inspire all the EV startups to go ‘Vocal for local.”
The company said it will also be widening the local supplier base in India for 100 percent localized electric Two-Wheelers.
